How I Use My Tallow Balm & How You Can Too

naturally nourishing tallow

Tallow has long felt rich, nourishing, and deeply comforting on my skin, a simple ingredient that quietly supports hydration and glow. Over time, it has become one of the most trusted parts of my routine. Today, I use my tallow balm on both face, neck, and body, but how I apply it depends on the time of day and what my skin needs most.

This is my personal routine and a gentle guide for how you might use it too.

Morning: A Light Layer for Protection and Glow

In the morning, I use my tallow balm sparingly. Usually, I apply it right after I shower, while my skin is still slightly warm and receptive to moisture. Living in a dry climate, this step feels especially important, it helps seal in hydration before the day begins.

I take a very small amount, warm it between my fingers, and massage it gently into my skin. Then I allow at least a few minutes for the balm to absorb before applying makeup and sunscreen.

Used this way, the balm creates a soft, natural glow underneath makeup. My skin looks more alive, more nourished, not shiny, just healthy. It feels protected and comfortable throughout the day, even in dry air.

Evening: A Rich Massage for Deep Nourishment

My evening routine is where I truly indulge in the balm.

At night, I apply it more generously and take one to two minutes to gently massage it into my skin. This small ritual not only helps the balm absorb better, but it also gives my skin a chance to fully relax and deeply benefit from the nourishment.

When I first started using tallow-based products on my face, I focused on areas outside of the T-zone — the less pore-heavy parts — cheekbones, under the eyes, the forehead, and a small amount around the mouth (I have been using tallow on my lips for as long as I can remember). As I became more comfortable and saw how well my skin responded, I gradually expanded to new areas.

Now, I apply it all over my face and neck each evening. What I’ve noticed most is that my skin no longer feels dry or tight. Instead, it feels soft, supported, and carries a healthy, natural glow that does not disappear by morning.

Why the Blend Matters

Pure tallow can feel quite rich on its own. For some skin types, that richness may feel too heavy. That’s why I love thoughtfully combining tallow with other nourishing fats and oils.

Ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, and calendula-infused oil help balance the texture while adding their own skin-loving benefits. Together, they help support hydration, improve elasticity, and create that supple, well-nourished look many of us associate with truly healthy skin.

The result is a balm that feels deeply comforting, yet more balanced and elegant on the skin than tallow alone.

Face, Body, and Beyond

Although my facial routine is where I am most intentional, I also use my tallow balm on the rest of my body, especially on dry areas like hands, elbows, feet, and legs. It’s a versatile, uncomplicated product that adapts beautifully depending on how much you apply.

A little for daytime protection.
More for evening repair and restoration.

Because tallow is naturally rich and fatty, it’s important to allow it time to fully absorb into the skin. Taking a moment to massage it in and letting it settle helps the skin feel nourished rather than heavy, and allows the ingredients to truly do their work.

A Simple Ritual, with Peace of Mind

One of the quiet comforts of using a tallow balm is knowing exactly what you’re putting on your skin. While I massage it in each night, there is an added sense of ease in knowing that the ingredients are natural, familiar, and thoughtfully chosen for their nourishing properties.

It’s a simple ritual — one that supports skin over time, rather than promising overnight miracles (although, at times, it truly feels like it delivers a small one).

And for me, that steady nourishment is what creates the glow I value most: skin that feels cared for, resilient, and naturally radiant.
